Augustale

The Augustale line – excellence among Crifo wines

Within the broad range of labels under the Crifo brand, the Augustale line, inspired by the figure of Augustus, a symbol of balance and renewal, stands as the highest expression of Crifo’s winemaking production. Explicitly defined as a family of top-quality wines, the Augustale wines are produced in compliance with the production regulations Castel del Monte DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita). This excellence is the result of the meticulous selection of grape clusters from strictly native vineyards, such as Nero di Troia for the red Augustale Castel del Monte Nero di Troia Riserva DOCG and Bombino Nero for the rosé Augustale Castel del Monte Bombino Nero DOCG.

Ruvo di Puglia, the production area of Augustale wines

The production area, particularly for the Augustale wines, focuses on selected vineyards east of Ruvo di Puglia, on the limestone hills of the Alta Murgia. This area is renowned for its optimal conditions for viticulture, thanks to favorable sun exposure, wide temperature variations, and mineral-rich soils.

The indigenous grape varieties protagonists of the Augustale line

The Crifo Augustale line thus stands out for the exclusive use of indigenous Puglian grape varieties from Alta Murgia, chosen for their ability to best express the territory. The main varieties that define this line of excellence are Nero di Troia for the red and Bombino Nero for the refined rosé.

The Augustale Castel del Monte Nero di Troia Riserva DOCG wine is produced 100% from Nero di Troia grapes, one of the oldest local varieties in the region. Similarly, the Augustale Castel del Monte Bombino Nero DOCG is obtained entirely from pure Bombino Nero grapes.

These grapes are intrinsically adapted to the local climate and soil conditions, allowing an optimal expression of their varietal characteristics and terroir. This focus contributes significantly to the distinctiveness and authenticity of the Augustale red and rosé wines, making them particularly attractive to expert tasters seeking regional typicity. The fundamental aspect that validates the quality of Augustale wines is their DOCG classification (Controlled and Guaranteed Designation of Origin) for the main labels such as Nero di Troia (which also boasts the mention Riserva” due to the long aging in wood) and Bombino Nero
