WE GROW A GENUINE PASSION ROOTED IN THE WORK OF OUR VINE GROWERS

OUR LEGEND

In the heart of Alta Murgia, the thousand-year old winemaking tradition has been enhanced with innovative vinification processes to create Apulian red, rosé, and white wines of extraordinary craftsmanship. This region, with its distinctive terroir for producing exceptional wines, culminating in the stunning setting of Castel del Monte, is the cradle of our approach to viticulture.

OUR HISTORY
1960-1980: The Beginnings

The Cooperative Winery of the Land Reform (Cantina della Riforma Fondiaria, now Ruvo di Puglia Winery) was founded to oversee the must market, laying the foundation for a long winemaking tradition. The Crifo brand (from the acronym Cantina.RIforma.FOndiaria.) adopts as its emblem the Griffin carved on the facade of the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta.

1990-2000: New Horizons

By participating in the most important national and international trade fairs in the sector, Crifo wines have successfully crossed regional borders. The Cru has been named Augustale Murgia IGT Troia Grapes: a wine destined to become iconic, the highest expression of the terroir and winemaking mastery of the Winery.

2010-2020: Technology and Certifications

The new production plant in Contrada Colajanni, Ruvo di Puglia, takes winemaking processes to the next level and guarantees access to the prestigious international BRC and IFS certifications. Cru has been renamed Augustale Castel del Monte Nero di Troia Riserva DOCG, following the recognition of a new specific denomination for wines made from Nero di Troia grapes.

2020-: Sustainability and Growth

The Winery receives Equalitas certification, an important recognition attesting its commitment to environmental, social and economic sustainability. “Crifo Wine Store” wine shops number rises to four, reflecting a strategy of consumer proximity and territorial belonging. The innovative Kryos system, the first in Puglia, is integrated into the production line for reduction winemaking.

Crifo's Tradition: Our Journey from tha Vineyard to the Bottle

Our Mission

Our “Crifo” brand, an acronym for “Cantina della Riforma Fondiaria,” and our emblem, the mythological Griffin carved on the façade of the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, symbolize the deep connection with this land and its rich historical heritage. The identity of the Ruvo di Puglia Winery is strongly linked to the territory of Alta Murgia and Castel del Monte, areas where legend has it that Diomedes and Frederick II also toasted with our iconic Nero di Troia.

Our pursuit of excellence, evidenced by the BRC, IFS, and EQUALITAS certifications, is achieved through constant investment in innovation and technology for the benefit of our members.
