Harvesting is one of the most significant times of the year for every winery. But what does it really mean to “harvest”?
Harvesting is a ritual that renews itself every year: the vine has completed its cycle and the grapes are ready to be picked. Here, in the land of Nero di Troia, the process begins with a careful assessment of the grapes’ ripeness. Only when the balance between sugars and acidity is perfect does the picking begin.
In our fields, the gestures are those of the past: scissors cutting the bunch, crates filled by hand, the rustle of the wind through the leaves… these are images you can “feel,” a very characteristic soundscape.
Harvesting is a moment that brings generations together, connecting them to traditions.
This year we enriched our experience by hosting third-grade classes from the “Bovio-Cotugno” Comprehensive Institute for a multidisciplinary workshop dedicated to the winemaking process. The students had the opportunity to observe up close how wine is produced, the complete winemaking cycle. During the day, we also explored topics such as the importance of safety and sustainability. Through practical demonstrations, the students learned that the journey of wine is not only about tradition but also innovation and respect for the environment and people. These are values that Crifo promotes every day and is committed to passing on to new generations.
Together with these wonderful young people, we learned that harvesting, experienced in this way, becomes a bridge between past and future, between tradition and innovation, an opportunity to share the passion for our land and respect for what it offers us.
